My Poem…Lake Vespers

Lake Vespers

Dusk closes
on day.
Wind stills,
as does water.

I find myself
a communicant,
lingering
as darkness falls,
to drink peace
from lake chalice.

Tonight,
cautious
creatures
will come to drink.
They will leave
faint footprints.

At first light,
I will come
again for matins.

There,
I will find evidence
of those kindred celebrants
who came before me.
