Writing about Nature…..my poem After the Flood

After the Flood

Medusa roots

snake along creek beds.

Precarious

hemlocks and maples

maintain a fragile balance

on gouged and cutaway banks

where rivers rose,

ruthless,

beyond floodplains.

How could we,

ever safe in banks

unbreached,

have known

the savage ways

of water unleashed?
